200cc is one of the four engine classes - the other three being 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc, of which all are slower than in 200cc - and is the hardest type of engine for everyone to race on. It is the fastest engine class in the Mario Kart (series) to date. However, it's only playable in Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Mario Kart Tour and was released in a free update on April 23, 2015 for the former game. 200cc requires and takes more skill and technique than all classes according to Nintendo.

Being the largest engine class, vehicles in Mario Kart 8 are now able to exceed 100km/h.

In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, completing 200cc is compulsory to unlock Gold Mario. Also, 200cc Time Trials are introduced in the game.

In Mario Kart Tour, 200cc is only playable if you get the Gold Pass (a.k.a the game's subscription).
