The Banisher (バニッシュ Banisshu) is a kart that makes its first and only appearance in Mario Kart DS. It is one of the two default Karts for Dry Bones, the other being the Standard DB.
Description[]

Dry Bones on top of his Banisher on the Select Kart screen.
The Banisher is modeled after Dry Bones itself, and resembles a crawling Dry Bones with wheels in place of its limbs and a flattened shell that the rider sits on.
It has the same concept as the Turbo Yoshi and Turbo Birdo which debuted in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, and later the Cheep Charger, Magikruiser, Bullet Bike, Super Blooper and Piranha Prowler in Mario Kart Wii, the Bumble V and Cloud 9 which debuted in Mario Kart 7, and the Wild Wiggler and Yoshi Bike appearing in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
How to unlock[]
- Unlock Dry Bones first by completing the Special Cup in the Nitro Grand Prix in the 50cc engine class.
- Alternatively, the player can complete all Nitro or Retro Grand Prix cups in the 150cc engine class. This opens the Banisher to Mario and Yoshi, as Dry Bones will have not been unlocked by that point. should the player not complete the 50cc Nitro Cups first.
To let any character use it, complete all cups in Mirror Mode.
Statistics[]
The Banisher has extremely high acceleration and handling, and like the other "large" karts in the game, the highest possible items stat. It also has good Mini-Turbos, having the 10th longest in the game and the longest among all large karts. However, these positive traits are balanced out by its middling speed, which is the lowest in the game, making it difficult for the player to put its steering and recovery to good use. Thus, it tends to be the least used out of Dry Bones's karts in standard play.
In competitive Time Trials, the Banisher is not seen past the beginner level as it is usually outclassed by Dry Bones's other two karts. However, it is very occasionally used as a stepping stone towards intermediate times on GBA Sky Garden, as its three Mushrooms allow it to easily perform a large cut across the course to skip the first bridge, while the other karts would have to attempt this without using a Mushroom past the first few laps. Its steering and high off-road otherwise make it the optimal choice among large karts for regular driving around the course.
Its weight is equivalent to Daisy's Power Flower and Waluigi's Zipper, and its drift is shared with Wario's Dragonfly.
The kart is also tied with Peach's Royale kart for having the highest calculated stats of any kart in Mario Kart DS, with a combined total of 393. However, by sticking with the characters in their personal karts, it makes the Banisher's total the second-highest with that total being 407, whilst Peach's Royale with Peach wins with total of 416. By using the Royale or Banisher with either Bowser or R.O.B. will achieve the highest calculated stats in the game possible, with a total of 443.
Stats table[]
Trivia![]
- The Banisher and Bowser's Hurricane are the polar opposite in terms of stats, for example, the Banisher has the lowest top speed, while the Hurricane has the highest top speed, along with R.O.B.'s ROB-BLS.
