DK Mountain is the last track of the Star Cup in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. This track takes place in the middle of the jungle based on the Donkey Kong games, featuring a Barrel Cannon, a mad volcano, unstable turns, and falling boulders.
DK Mountain makes a retro appearance in Mario Kart Wii as the third track of the Lightning Cup, and in Mario Kart Tour as of the Animal Tour. It also makes yet another appearance as the second track of the Acorn Cup in Wave 6 of the Booster Course Pass DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Layout[]
Mario Kart: Double Dash!![]
DK Mountain is the last track of the Star Cup in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. This course introduced the Cannon to Mario Kart, and several subsequent tracks would utilize this device.
In this track, racers start within the jungle with a short hill in front of them, racers drive over the hill, and after a 180-degree left turn (a sign of Donkey Kong can be seen, reading "Donkey Cannon"), they approach the course's Barrel Cannon, shooting them to the top of the mountain.
The trip down the mountain starts off in mountainous terrain. As racers go down the mountain they encounter many bumps and boulders that they need to avoid, as well as large pits further down. The mountain section consists of a right u-turn followed by some jumps within a wide track and a right turn, before transitioning back to the jungle territory with a left turn. In this section, many sharp turns stand in their way, starting off with a right and a left, then a smooth right just before a right u-turn followed by a left u-turn. These turns lead to a rickety wooden bridge that leads to the Finish Line.
Because of how bumpy to road down the mountain is, racers are able to bounce right over Red Shells.
Mario Kart Wii[]
DK Mountain is the third track of the Lightning Cup in Mario Kart Wii. The course is very similar to its original Double Dash!! incarnation with the addition of some ramps to accommodate the new aerial tricks feature. These include wooden jump ramps on the above treeline section and half-pipes in the first few s-turns following the transition from mountain to jungle. Also, the sign that says, "Donkey Cannon" was shortened to "DK Cannon".
Mario Kart Tour[]
DK Mountain returns again 14 years later in Mario Kart Tour as one of the premiere tracks for the Animal Tour, the other being GBA Riverside Park. The course received an aesthetic overhaul, along with updated lighting and graphics. The starting banner now sports the modern Mario Kart logo instead of the classic one. The "DK" sign on the left side of the cannon has been removed, along with a glider ramp being added just before the cannon. The wooden bridge right before the end of the course is now held up by string, which protects you from falling off. In addition, you are now able to get tricks from the wobble of the bridge.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]
DK Mountain returns not too long after it's previous appearance, as part of Wave 6 of the Booster Course Pass DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, being the second race of the Acorn Cup. It is based significantly off the aesthetic overhaul it received from the Tour iteration, though with further improved lighting, texturing, and graphics. Firstly, many DK Barrels have been added throughout the course, mainly seen on grassy or muddy areas. Along with that, many railings along the course have either been added or removed. The barrel cannon now has regained the "DK" lettering on it's left side, and now has supports unlike the Tour version. Blasting off to the top of the mountain, more detail has been added to the background, with more distant forests, mountains, among other things, can be seen. The face on the mountain now sports a more realistic design, with it now being carved into the rock. Molten magma can also now be seen lining the very top of the mountain. Moving down the rocky terrain, the ramps seen in the Wii and Tour versions of the course have now became part of the mountain itself, now being ledges with arrows carved into them. A few DK Barrels are also present on the third of these natural ramps. The winding pathway down through the forest of the mountain is the same for the most part, aside from some sections being scaled more largely. Finally, the wooden bridge seen at the end of the course has now lost it's roped railings added in Tour, though Tricks are still able to be performed on it.
Shortcuts[]
- At the start of the course, there are two small mud shortcuts. Use a Mushroom or power item in order to take these. Some DK Barrels were added to them in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe iteration of the track.
- On the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe version of the course, taking the third ramp at a rightward angle will lead you on top some rocks which would otherwise be inaccessible if not taken. If done correctly, this cut will save a small amount of time.
- After the first two U-turns in the jungle section, there is a major shortcut which could be taken without any items. Simply slow down, angle your kart to the right, and hop over the relatively small gap! This shortcut is not available on the Mario Kart Tour version of the course.

Trivia![]
- This is the first track in Mario Kart Tour to feature the modern Mario Kart logo for its banner design despite being created before the aforementioned design.
- This course was originally supposed to come in Wave 5 of the Booster Course Pass as the 2nd course of the Cherry Cup (as evidenced by it being labeled in the files as "Cnsw_56"), but it got pushed back to Wave 6 for as of yet unknown reasons.
