Downloadable content (DLC) is additional content that is added to games, either for free or as a way for developers to make money. In 2014, Nintendo released the first ever DLC pack for the Mario Kart Series. Since then, many new packs have released for multiple games in the series. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Booster Course Pass ($25.00)[]
The Booster Course Pass unlocks 8 courses over 6 waves (totaling 48 courses) that all released before the end of 2023:
- The First Wave was announced on February 9th 2022 and released on March 18th, 2022, adding the Golden Dash Cup and the Lucky Cat Cup.
- The Second Wave was announced on July 28th, 2022 and released on August 4th, 2022, adding the Turnip Cup and the Propeller Cup.
- The Third Wave was teased on September 13th, 2022 when two of the eight tracks were previewed in a Nintendo Direct. Later, on November 21st, 2022, the full wave was announced and later released on December 7th, 2022; adding the Rock Cup and the Moon Cup.
- The Fourth Wave was teased on February 8th 2023, when Yoshi's Island and Birdo as a playable character were shown off in a Nintendo Direct. On March 2nd, 2023, the rest of the wave was announced and later released on March 9th, 2023; adding the Fruit Cup and the Boomerang Cup.
- The Fifth Wave was teased on June 21st, 2023 when Squeaky Clean Sprint alongside 3 Characters (Kamek, Petey Piranha and Wiggler) were shown off in a Nintendo Direct. On July 6th 2023, the rest of the wave was announced and later released on July 12, 2023; adding the Feather Cup and Cherry Cup.
- The Sixth Wave was teased on September 14th, 2023, when Wii Daisy Circuit alongside 4 Characters (Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Pauline, and Peachette) were shown off in a Nintendo Direct. On November 1st 2023, the rest of the wave was announced and later released on November 9th 2023; adding the Acorn Cup and the Spiny Cup.
