A Dash Panel from Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

Dash Panels (also called Boost Pads) are special zones that appear in every game of the Mario Kart series.

Dash Panels are used to grant speed boost of the karts specially essential to use in great obstacles as big jumps and slopes. Super Mario Kart Dash Panels (known as Zippers in the game) appear as yellow arrows on a few courses. Mario Kart 64 Dash Panels make appearances on Royal Raceway and DK's Jungle Parkway and appear as yellow pads with scrolling red arrows. Mario Kart: Super Circuit Dash Panels make another comeback as yellow and red pads that appear in most of the levels. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Dash Panels appear as flashing rainbow pads in this game but only on a few courses. In Mario Kart DS, where they are more often called Dash Panels, they appear as flashing rainbow pads again in many courses. Mario Kart Wii Dash Panels look like multicolored conveyor belts as in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! . In Mario Kart 7 the Dash Panels appear similar to the Mario Kart Wii Dash Panels but are orange in color but were originally intended to be Rainbow back in E3 2010. Mario Kart 8 Dash Panels are identical to Mario Kart 7 Dash Panels but appear as LED screens. The Dash Panels on the Retro Stages are still the same from their original game.
