A Frogoon (フロッグーン) is an adversary of Donkey Kong, first appearing in Donkey Kong Country Returns. Much like Goombas in Mario games, Frogoons are easily-defeated; a mere jump on top of them is all it takes.
In DK Jungle from Mario Kart 7 (as well as the later remakes), Frogoons act as a moving obstacle and try to spin racers out.
Characteristics[]
Frogoons are exactly what their name implies: frogs. They seem to be of a jungle type, with light green skin and a few patches of dark green on their backs and legs. Frogoons generally have laid back eyes and a wide smile, masking their sinister motives. Their bodies are a bit flatter than usual, but in a size comparison, a Frogoon is absolutely colossal compared to a typical frog.
Track Appearances[]
Mario Kart 7[]
Near the mid-end of DK Jungle (right before the entryway to the Banana Temple), Frogoons hop around a dense jungle area. Because of their quick speed, these enemies can actually be a very serious threat in this cramped, windy area. Low traction thanks to muddy sections of track also added to the deadliness of this area. Hitting a Frogoon will cost you time and 3 Coins, so watch it.
Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]
In the new version of the course, 3DS DK Jungle, Frogoons are in the same section and behave almost exactly the same as in Mario Kart 7. However, instead of jumping twice and then turning (as they did previously), now they only jump once and then change directions.
Trivia![]
- A Frogoon's name is a combination of the word "frog" and "goon," which means enemy.
- Frogoons in Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D would stay in place as they jump, occasionally inflating themselves for more altitude. A different version, a Hopgoon, was actually able to move around (which is more similar to the Mario Kart obstacle).
