A Grand Star (グランドスター) is a collectible item first featured in 2007's Super Mario Galaxy. As an upgrade to regular Power Stars, these exceptionally rare items are able to unlock new domes (worlds), which in turn allows the player to progress in the game.
In Mario Kart Tour, Grand Stars can be collected to unlock gift packages.
Usage[]
After completing a race, the player is awarded anywhere from one to five Grand Stars—the amount depends on how many points they've earned based on their race performance. These collectibles are stored in a sort of Grand Star bank that is marked with a number... the number signifies how many Grand Stars are needed to unlock the next Tour Gift. Once the amount of Grand Stars has been reached, the Tour Gift is given as a reward to the player. And what's inside varies on game progression.
The first couple of Tour Gifts have a low Grand Star goal, but the total needed will steadily climb throughout the game.
Trivia![]

Hopefully those Grand Star designs help Rosalina with the Grand Prix...
- Before the Grand Star was a collectable item in Mario Kart Tour, it was first seen on Rosalina's vehicle icon in Mario Kart Wii. A blue frilled Grand Star icon also served as Baby Rosalina's logo in Mario Kart 8 and the DX remake.
- The floating Star icon on Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road is replaced by a Grand Star on Wii U and Nintendo Switch versions. Additionally, a Grand Star can be seen rotating atop the tower, on Boost Pads, and bordering the road in the updated tracks.
- Mario Kart Tour awards Grand Stars sort of like a common currency, but they were a lot rarer in their original games—7 total in Super Mario Galaxy and only 6 in ''Super Mario Galaxy 2.
