The Koopalings as they appear in Mario Kart 8.
The Koopalings are Bowser's seven children in older Super Mario games, and his seven minions with no familial relation in newer Super Mario games. Mario Kart 8 describes them as Bowser's "kobun" which can mean either minions or adopted children.[1] They consist of Larry, Morton, Wendy, Iggy, Roy, Lemmy, and Ludwig. They first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 in 1988 and made their debut in Mario Kart 8 as playable racers. Yet they're quite popular in style.

Newer Super Mario games depict the Koopalings as Bowser's minions in the "current story" for the Mario franchise after Bowser Jr. was introduced. They are all common boss enemies in various games and share similar characteristics, such as being childlike and mischievous.
