This Mega Thwomp has created a devastating ripple effect on the flowing sands, Diddy Kong does his best to overcome the waves of sand and keep his Coins.
A Mega Thwomp is a much larger variety of Thwomp found in several Mario games as a much larger and hazardous variation of the Thwomp. In the Mario Kart series, one is seen in Thwomp Desert as the main primary hazard. It is seen resting above the quicksand and every so often, it will periodically slam onto the ground (above the quicksand) creating a massive earthquake that causes the flowing sand to ripple with great intensity. This can be useful to preform tricks off to gain some speed and avoid incoming attacks. If it manages to crush you, it can have a massive impact on you and your Team and could result in you losing a Balloon or heaps of Coins. After a few seconds, the ripples stop and the Mega Thwomp will rise back up only to do it again at some point later, in each round, the Mega Thwomp has the same pattern and will slam at the exact same times during each round so if you can figure out it's patterns you're pretty much set. Once the round is over during the results screen, the shaking ground shows that the Mega Thwomp continues slamming the ground despite the round being over.
Trivia![]
- The Mega Thwomp is sometimes referred to as the Super Thwomp in some of it's appearances. Due to this, it is often confused with the Super Thwomps that appear on SNES Rainbow Road.
- It is possible that the Thwomps in the sands of Thwomp Desert are also Mega Thwomps but it is hard to tell as they're mostly buried.
- Due to it's ginormous size, the Mega Thwomp is the one of the only two hazards that actually appears on the minimap, the other being the Chomp from Chain Chomp Wheel
- Coincidently, they both appear in Wii Battle Stages.
