Miis are digital avatars that were introduced in the Nintendo Wii, where they can be created at any time via the Mii Channel (or Mii Maker in later consoles like the Switch). They resemble 3D humans, which use a variety of different facial features and body types.
Despite their main purpose of being avatars of the creator and their associates, they are used to a wider extent, being first compatible in a Mario Kart game with Mario Kart Wii, as unlockable drivers and spectators in various Tracks in the game. They also appear in Mario Kart 7, in Mario Kart 8 as well as its Nintendo Switch port, where amiibo can be used to unlock Mii Racing Suits for them, and in Mario Kart Tour, where they come in many different Racing Suits with unique traits.
Characteristics[]
Miis are Nintendo's digital avatars that are meant to resemble 3D humans. They were introduced on the Wii via the Mii Channel, where they can be created whenever the player wanted to, using one of many different heads, hair, eyebrows, eyes, noses, mouths, facial hair, glasses and body types in various colors and positions. Players can also pick a Mii's favorite color, which affects the color of their shirt or dress, and give them a nickname. They can also be created via the Mii Maker on later consoles, Miitomo (before it was shut down), or on your Nintendo Account profile (if you have one).
Up to 100 Miis can be stored on a Wii, 3DS, and/or Nintendo Switch (and ten (10) per each Wii Remote) and up to a whopping 3000 Miis can be stored on a Wii U. However, only six can be stored on your Nintendo account profile.

Game Appearances[]
Mario Kart Wii[]
Miis make their Mario Kart debut in Mario Kart Wii, although they aren't characters from the Mario franchise. Miis appear as playable drivers under 2 unlockable outfits: Mii Outfit A and Mii Outfit B. Even when unlocked, CPU racers will never participate as a Mii.
Miis can be in any weight class according to their height and weight, so therefore Miis can drive every Kart and Bike in the game, though they can only access vehicles in their weight class. The paintjob for the Miis' vehicles depends on their gender, where males' karts and bikes are usually colored blue and females' karts and bikes are usually colored pink.
When racing, Miis make sounds according to race actions. There are eight different voices, four for each gender, which depends on the selected Mii's favorite color. Also, Miis' voices are lower pitched if they're in a heavier weight class.
When playing as a Mii, many statues on some tracks are replaced with random Miis in the game, such as the Luigi statue in Luigi Circuit. As they race, Miis react to various events that happen by temporarily changing their facial features. There are also lots of Mii spectators in various tracks (though they are limbless and oval-shaped), such as Coconut Mall, where some Miis even drive cars?!
Mii Outfit A[]
When a Mii is selected under Mii Outfit A, they will wear a racing suit in their favorite color.
Mii Outfit B[]
When a Mii is selected under Mii Outfit B, they will either wear overalls like Mario's and Luigi's with a shirt in their favorite color if they're a male, or a gown similar to Peach's and Daisy's in their favorite color if they're a female.
Mario Kart 7[]
Miis reappear as unlockable drivers and spectators on various tracks in Mario Kart 7. This time, Miis will always fall under the "Medium" weight class, similar to Mario and Luigi, no matter how tall or broad he or she is. Miis will always wear a racing suit in their favorite color, which also affects the color of their Standard Kart and Pipe Frame. They have been given new voices in this game, and the favorite colors that affect the voices have been changed.
Mario Kart 8 (Deluxe)[]
Miis return once again in Mario Kart 8 (as well as Deluxe), but this time they only appear as unlockable drivers (available at the start in 8 Deluxe) and in the lobby in Online Mode. Just like Mario Kart Wii, Miis can be in any weight class according to by their height and weight, which grants different stats to each class. As well as the default racing suit which uses the Mii's favorite color, there are other racing suits dedicated to Mario characters and other Nintendo-related characters, which are granted by using their amiibo in the game. However, Miis now wear a helmet as well as their racing suit when racing, so therefore their familiar hair can no longer be seen at this time.
Miis can be seen in Online Mode, where the Default Mii (or a Basic Mii if they don't use one) for each online user can be seen in the lobby (with their helmet off).
Miis no longer appear in the background of a track, and are replaced with traditional spectators from the Mario franchise such as colored Yoshis and Shy Guys. As an example, in Wii Coconut Mall from the Booster Course Pass DLC in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Mii Drivers seen in the original Coconut Mall are now Shy Guy Drivers.
Miis retain their voices in Mario Kart Wii, but the voices have been pitched up and also the pitch no longer changes depending on the Mii's weight.
Mario Kart Tour[]
Miis make a fourth appearance in Mario Kart with the mobile spin-off game, Mario Kart Tour. They weren't released when the game came out; it was until roughly 2 and a 1/2 years since the game's release when the Mii Tour finally released in March 2022. This time, Miis no longer wear a racing suit in their favorite color; they wear a chosen racing suit, which can be equipped with any Mii. Like Mario Kart 8 (and Deluxe), Miis wear a helmet when racing and there are no Mii spectators in the tracks.
There are many Mii racing suits in this game, with more being added as the Tours progressed. Players start with the Red Mii Racing Suit, which has the Mushroom Cannon as its Special Item, while the rest are unlockable. All Mii Racing Suits are classified as High-End Drivers, and for each extra Mii Racing Suit obtained, they add 10 extra Base Points for each Mii Racing Suit until a certain amount are collected.
There is a Mii Cup in a Tour, which is always a Tour's second cup. Here, every Mii Racing Suit favors every track in that cup, especially the first, in which case all of them momentarily favorite it. Elsewhere, Mii Racing Suits will favor a cup's first track, unless they favorite it by default.
Unlike their past appearances, Miis only use one voice no matter their Racing Suit or favorite color, reusing the male voice for Miis with red, orange or pink as their favorite color from Mario Kart 7.
Stats[]
Mario Kart Wii[]
Miis boost at least four stats (like Baby Peach, Mario and Donkey Kong if this is the case), where the weight class of the Mii will give different stats. Interestingly enough, the Large Mii boosts five stats, making them the only racer to boost such stats, thus granting them somewhat of a special advantage.

Trivia![]
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the first game on the Nintendo Switch that supports Miis, as well as the only one for over a year, however, the games Go Vacation, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Miitopia, Mario Golf: Super Rush and Nintendo Switch Sports also support Miis.
- Miis are the only characters in the original Mario Kart 8 that aren't unlocked at random. Instead, they are always the 8th to be unlocked.
- In Mario Kart Wii, when playing as a Mii, some courses will change the head of some characters' statues into a random Mii in the game. (ex. Luigi Circuit)
- Also in Mario Kart Wii, if the player views a replay and is spectating a Mii, the Mii will look at the player whenever the camera is infront or beside them. This does not apply in time trials if a Mii is already seen as a ghost.
- The voices for the Miis that were used in Mario Kart Wii returned in Mario Kart 8 (including Deluxe), however, they are unrecognizable due to the voices becoming more pitched up.
- Before version 2.4.0 in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Heavy Mii's stats were shared with Bowser and Morton. Since this update, their stats are shared with Wario and Dry Bowser.
