The Nintendo GameCube (also can be abbreviated to GameCube, GCN, or GC) is a console created by Nintendo. It was released in 2001 along with the Game Boy Advance. The Mario Kart game released for it was Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, which was released in 2003. Like its predecessor, the Nintendo 64, it also had revolutionary graphics and has four controller ports.

The console was discontinued in Japan and Australia in 2007, in Europe in 2008, and in North America in 2009.

Mario Kart Games released for the GameCube[]

Trivia![]

  • The GameCube is named after its cubic shape.
  • The GameCube's nickname is the Dolphin.
  • The GameCube uses the abbreviation GCN because NGC was already used as the abbreviation for the Neo Geo Pocket Color, a handheld console made by the SNK Playmore Corporation two years earlier. This strange abbreviation would become especially noticed in Mario Kart DS and all the Mario Kart games to follow, due to how retro courses from Mario Kart: Double Dash!! would use this name, while courses from other games used standard abbreviations from their respective consoles (i.e. SNES, N64, GBA, DS, Wii, and 3DS).
  • Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, the Mario Kart game for the Nintendo GameCube, can also be played on the Wii, the home console for Mario Kart Wii, meaning all of the home console Mario Karts up to Mario Kart Wii can be played on the Wii, since Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 are playable via Virtual Console.
  • The GameCube and 3DS are the only consoles to not have downloadable games on Virtual Console for the Wii U, considering the GameCube's disks are smaller than the usual disks, and that the 3DS and Wii U were both released as two separate consoles from Nintendo at the time. However, installing the Hombrew app allows GameCube games to be played on the Wii U.
