Palm Shore is a stage in battle mode for Mario Kart DS. It reappears as a retro battle stage in Mario Kart 7.
Mario Kart DS[]
The stage is a round stage with three sandy islands. The outer two are semi-circle shaped and surround the central island, which is round like a circle. This stage is unique as the course changes throughout the battle. The water level rises and falls, filling the gaps between the islands with water when up. Driving in the water on the outsides of the two outer islands will result in Lakitu retrieving the player. It's the second dynamic battle stage in the Mario Kart series, the first being Tilt-A-Kart from Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Driving in the water slows down drivers so much that they can become a prime target for Green Shells. The battle course also features several Sidesteppers that waddle around the beach (and sometimes into the water).
Mario Kart 7[]
The stage hasn't changed much from Mario Kart DS, however, due to the game's new underwater driving mechanics, battlers are no longer slowed down by the water.
Trivia![]
- This is one of two battle course that has appeared in handheld games twice, the other being GBA Battle Course 1.
- Coincidentally, both reappear in Mario Kart 7 as retro battle courses.
- This course is heavily based on Sunshine Isles from Super Mario 64 DS.
