Diddy Kong driving by a Pile of Leaves which Baby Luigi is about to hit for an item? Will he have any luck?!
Piles of Leaves (also called Leaf Piles, Clumps of Leaves or Leaf Clumps) are an obstacle/feature in Maple Treeway found in Mario Kart Wii and various other Mario Kart games. They appear scattered around the track. Running into a Pile of Leaves has a chance of it revealing an Item. It can reveal either a Banana, a Mushroom, or in extremely rare cases, even a Starman which could help you gain a huge lead. The Leaf Pile dissipates after being driven into but they reappear after several seconds (fall must really be in the air) allowing anyone to have another shot at getting an item.
Piles of Leaves return in the Mario Kart 7 remake of Maple Treeway. In this game, they can also reveal a Green Shell or even a Coin alongside the Bananas, Mushrooms, and Stars. Aditionally, Stars are far more rare this time.
In Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Piles of Leaves appear in the Autumn/Fall version of Animal Crossing. They function the same as they did in the previous games and their regeneration is just as quick as they spring back rather quickly.
In the Maple Treeway of Mario Kart Tour, Piles of Leaves return with the exact same function as the mainline games.
Trivia![]
- Piles of Leaves first appeared in Super Mario Galaxy. They were commonly seen in the Gold Leaf Galaxy (which apparently inspired Maple Treeway), in this game, running into a Pile of Leaves does nothing-BUT if you spin while in a Pile of Leaves, you can reveal some Star Bits or even a Coin.
