A Pooka (プーカァ) is basic combatant from the Namco series Dig-Dug. It's arcade origins also make it a common character seen in Pac-Man games, and because of this, the Pooka gets the honor (or maybe dishonor) of being Ms. Pac-Man and his macho husband's exclusive Special Item in Mario Kart Arcade GP and its sequel.
First though, you'll have to win a few cups with either Ms. Pac-Man or Pac-Man, because the Pooka doesn't come pre-unlocked.
Usage[]
Offense[]
After crashing into a hexagon-shaped Item Crystal, Mrs. Pac-Man/Pac Man can pick up one of these Pookas and choose to either throw him forward or simply drop the guy behind him (It really depends on where the other racers are.). After and enemy kart makes contact with the Pooka, he will damage them severely, knocking over their vehicle to make them lose precious time.
Protection[]
As with most Mario Kart Arcade games, you usually have to take Item hits like a man (or a strong woman). The Pooka is no exception, with the only methods of dodging/blocking it are simply to trail Pac-Man or Ms. Pac-Man by no less than ten feet/have a Shield/Reflective Shield.
Trivia![]
- Pookas make another Mario appearance in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, acting as extremely weak enemies in the Smash Run mode.
- Switching the "p" and "k" in "Pooka" makes "Koopa", as in a Koopa Troopa. Secret relationship, maybe?
