The Rambi Rider (ジャングルカーゴ Janguru Kāgo) is one of Donkey Kong's Karts in Mario Kart DS, the others being the Standard DK and the Wildlife. It is available to players at the start of the game. It also returns in Mario Kart Tour, appearing in the Jungle Tour, nearly, 15 years since its debut in Mario Kart DS.

Description[]

It is based on Rambi, a rhino from Donkey Kong Country, whom Donkey Kong and/or Diddy Kong rides on whenever they find his respective box during the game.

Throughout the entirety of the game, only Donkey Kong can use the Rambi Rider. However, upon completing either the 150cc Nitro or Retro Grand Prix cups, Bowser and Princess Daisy (if she has been unlocked prior to such) can use the Rambi Rider. Completing all cups in Mirror Mode unlocks the Rambi Rider to every other racer.

In Mario Kart Tour, the Rambi Rider' design is only altered in updated color palette and textures, features the character emblem on both sides of the barrel, and uses the Red Monster tires from Mario Kart 7. The game also includes two color swaps of the Rambi Rider; the Rambi Runner, appearing in the Bowser vs. DK Tour, and the Gold Rambi Rider, first appearing in the Animal Tour, both of which are High-End karts.

Statistics[]

Mario Kart DS[]

The Rambi Rider has high drift and is one of the heaviest karts in the game by raw weight, second only to the Tyrant. Like all other "large" karts in DS, the Rambi Rider also has the highest possible items stat. However, this is counteracted by its low acceleration and abysmal handling, and its very weak Mini-Turbos, the second shortest in the game ahead of only the Tyrant. Additionally, its speed, while above-average, is the lowest among all karts in the game belonging to heavyweights, being beaten out by even the Poltergust 4000 and Gold Mantis, both of which are middleweight-class karts. Because of these flaws and its negligible advantages that are done better by karts from nearly every weight class, the Rambi Rider is often considered one of the worst karts in the game, if not outright the worst, at every level of play.

Because of how bad the Rambi Rider is, it is one of the most popular karts to use in joke runs (often multiplayer races where every player picks this kart) or extreme self-imposed Time Trial challenges.
