Rome Avanti is a track that debuted with its first two variants in the Night Tour for Mario Kart Tour, and its 3rd variant in the 4th Anniversary Tour. It then later returned as one of the courses in Wave 6 of the Booster Course Pass DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as the first track of the Acorn Cup.

It is primarily themed around the city of Rome, otherwise known as the capital of Italy. It's the 13th city track and the 18th Mario Kart Tour Track overall, released in between Athens Dash and Piranha Plant Pipeline.

Layout[]

Mario Kart Tour[]

All three of Rome Avanti's routes start on la Via del Corso, a straightaway that continues south of a roundabout. The first and third routes start facing south, visiting many areas to the south like the Colosseum and la Piazza del Campidóglio, while the second route starts facing north and visits many Piazze on the north side of the map. The three routes have reverse versions where their directions are inverted, trick versions where they get extra ramps for Jump Boosts, and reverse-trick versions where both changes occur.

Rome Avanti 1[]

Racers on this route start facing south. After they start, they make a slight left in la Piazza Venezia, before continuing south and entering the Colosseum at the southeastern area of the map. After a spiral loop upwards, they get out of the Colosseum and go through the Roman Forum at the southern edge of the course, heading back north past the Arch of Septimius Severus and then making a left turn through a roundabout at la Piazza del Campidóglio (The eastern half is blocked off.), followed by a right turn to escape the Piazza, then a left turn to go down a flight of stairs to la Piazza Navona, then making a right turn onto another road at said Piazza and entering la Piazza del Pópolo's roundabout at the north edge of the map from the southwest. The racers make a sharp right to get through the southern exit and get back to the starting line.

Reverse, Trick, and Reverse-trick Variants[]

While the reverse and trick variants have nothing home to write about other than their layouts having the direction be reversed for the former and ramps being strewn about so the racers can perform more jump boosts in the latter, the reverse-trick variant has a glider ramp that racers use to exit the Colosseum, though Fuzzies infest that area. There exists a glitch in the reverse-trick version where the racers can puncture the invisible walls on both sides of the last turn, going out of bounds.[1]

Rome Avanti 2[]

This route starts facing north. After the racers enter la Piazza del Pópolo's roundabout from the south (the same one they went through for Rome Avanti 1 in the finale), they take a sharp right and go through the southeast exit, visiting la Piazza di Spagna. They then go through a slight right turn climbing the Spanish Steps, then make a left turn to enter the Villa Borghese gardens, then make another sharp left turn, approaching the roundabout from the east after a drop. This time, the racers take the southwest exit, continuing into la Piazza Navona. Here, they go through a split-path section that Rocky Wrenches haunt. The racers follow this by a slight right, then a sharp left, and then a slight right that leads onto a road leading past la Boca di Verità. Afterwards, the racers make a left turn onto la Via del Corso, approaching the starting line from the south.

Part of this course's western lobe has been incorporated into the regular version of Rome Avanti 3, though traversed backwards (more specifically the stretch from the intersection with la Piazza del Campidóglio to the south to the roundabout at la Piazza del Pópolo).

Reverse, Trick, and Reverse-trick Variants[]

The route's reverse version incorporates a glider ramp just outside the eastern exit of la Piazza del Pópolo so the racers can climb the drop. The reverse-trick version has a glide ramp where the racers exit the Villa Borghese Gardens.

Rome Avanti 3[]

This route starts facing south, just like the first route. After the racers start, they will take a sharp left turn from la Via del Corso with the Trevi fountain up ahead to the southeast. Before the Trevi Fountain, racers can take a Glider Ramp to fly over the water. After this, the road makes a sharp right turn in Trajan's Market, heading southwest through the colosseum via bridge. After the racers exit the colosseum, they take a right turn to the Piazza del Campidóglio, where they swing around a roundabout and then take a left turn, then another left. They then take a sharp right turn in Campo de Fiori, where they can tag another Glider Ramp to fly through the Piazza Navona, although they must avoid some fuzzies. There is a split path after the Glider Ramp. After the road rejoins, the racers come to la Piazza del Pópolo's roundabout from the southeast. The racers take the south exit to get back to the starting line in la Via del Corso.

Reverse, trick, and Reverse-trick Variants[]

The trick variant adds a note block bridge that functions like the Trampoline Mushrooms in Mario Kart Wii's Mushroom Gorge to the Trevi Fountain, and two more Fuzzy tracks appear near Trajan's Market, while the Piazza Navona has two rolling Chainless Chomps. The reverse-trick variant removes the Chomps and Fuzzies, and Waterspouts appear in the Trevi Fountain.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]

Rome Avanti appears in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass's sixth wave as the first course of the Acorn Cup. Like most other city tracks, with the expectation of Paris Promenade, each lap explores a different part of the track.

The first lap is based on Rome Avanti 1. However, when the racers enter la Piazza del Campidóglio, the western half of that Piazza's roundabout is no longer blocked off so they can go around it instead of the east side if they please. They can also make a shortcut beneath the Arch of Septimius Severus. The second lap starts as a backwards version of Rome Avanti 2, but the racers turn right early, heading down Rome Avanti 1's staircase to la Piazza Navona and entering the roundabout at la Piazza del Pópolo from the southwest. However, instead of taking the east exit (as they would if they were to traverse the route backwards), they take the southeastern exit of la Piazza del Pópolo's roundabout, following the eastern lobe of Rome Avanti 2 in the proper direction, including the Spanish Steps and the Villa Borghese Gardens. This time, when they enter the roundabout, they go around and take the southern exit to get back to the starting line. The final lap follows Rome Avanti 3, though just like in the first lap, the racers can go around both sides of the roundabout at la Piazza del Campidóglio. The map is also upside-down compared to Mario Kart Tour.

Variants each lap takes from[]

Trivia![]

  • Rome Avanti is the sixth European City track in Mario Kart Tour. The others being Paris Promenade, London Loop, Berlin Byways, Amsterdam Drift and Athens Dash.
  • This is the third time a City Track loses a part of a layout, as the south-by-southeastern eighth of the roundabout at la Piazza del Pópolo (between said roundabout's southern and southeastern exits), which was used in the original Rome Avanti 2, is now blocked off.
    • The southwestern quadrant of the roundabout with the Luxor Obelisk was removed in Paris Promenade despite Paris Promenades 1 and 2 using it.
    • The second route of Amsterdam Drift gave the option to take an inside route in the canals in Mario Kart Tour, but in the Booster Course Pass, the racers are now restricted to the outside route.
  • This is the third time the first lap is not based entirely on the first layout of a City Track, as while Rome Avanti 1 locks out the western half of la Piazza del Campidóglio (Rome Avanti 3 uses the western half but blocks out the eastern half.), both halves are accessible in the Booster Course Pass.
    • Paris Promenade's first lap amalgamates all three layouts, as after going through Paris Promenade 1, the route switches to 2 as the racers pass through the roundabout at the far east and head north, before switching to 3.
    • London Loop's first lap has a shortcut to the southeast of the Leadenhall Market, even though the racers must traverse the market for London Loop 1.
    • Berlin Byways does not count due to Berlin Byways "2" technically being the first route, while the second route is Berlin Byways "1."
    • Los Angeles Laps has only a single lap that amalgamates all three routes, so there is no second or third lap and therefore that track does not count.
  • Rome Avanti is the second city course from Mario Kart Tour to have a multiple path, road or exit cut off in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass.
  • This course was originally supposed to come in Wave 5 of the Booster Course Pass as the last course of the Feather Cup (as evidenced by it being labeled in the files as "Cnsw_54"), but it got pushed back to Wave 6 for as of yet unknown reasons.
