Shy Guy is a character from the Super Mario series who first appeared as a common Mook enemy in Super Mario Bros. 2. This being stares out from behind his mask, his gaze revealing the hidden weaknesses of his opponents.
He is a playable racer in the Mario Kart starting with Mario Kart DS, but only DS Download Play downloaders can play as a him. He is also playable in Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Kart Tour, where he can be used even if you own the game. He is a lightweight in the series.
Characteristics[]
Shy Guy is a short little racer in the Mario Kart series. He has blue shoes with brown soles. Shy Guy is cloaked in a red hood that covers his whole body. He wears a maroon belt with a gold buckle over it, and because he is shy, he has a white mask with a brown strap that has large, black holes simulating his eyes and a small, black hole for a mouth.
In Mario Kart, Shy Guys come in alternate colors when in multiplayer. The colors are light blue, green, yellow, pink, and purple. Only their robes and shoes are different colors. Still, you have to give them credit for moderation.
How to unlock[]
- Win the 150cc Shell Cup.
- Or use Download Play (this does not unlock Shy Guy, but you'll play as a gray Shy Guy).
- Purchase him from the Daily Selects for 800 Coins if he appears.
- Or obtain him from the Pipe.
Game Appearances[]
Mario Kart: Super Circuit[]
Although he isn't a racer in Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Shy Guy appears in the background of the Shy Guy Beach track, where he and his are pirates throwing cannonballs from cannons onto the shore. He also latches Coins from racers when they hit a teepee in the Sunset Wilds track.
Shy Guy also appears as a spectator during the Award Ceremony in Mario Kart: Super Circuit.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!![]
Shy Guy is once again absent from the roster, and instead he is an obstacle in Sherbet Land, where he and other Shy Guys are skating.
Mario Kart DS[]
Shy Guy makes his third appearance in Mario Kart in Mario Kart DS, which is also his first playable appearance in the series. However, he cannot be selected by default; instead, he is exclusive to the DS Download Play mode, where downloaders are forced to use Shy Guy with his Standard Kart, the Standard SG. He is available in multiple colors too. There can be up to 7 Shy Guys in a race (7 other downloaders).
You may also use Shy Guy by using an Action Replay and using it as a cheat.
Mario Kart Wii[]
Shy Guy, yet again, is missing from the game's roster, but Shy Guys can be seen snowboarding at DK Summit. GBA Shy Guy Beach returns as a retro track in this game.
Mario Kart 7[]
Shy Guy returns in Mario Kart 7, as a Featherweight racer along with Toad, Koopa Troopa and Lakitu. He must be unlocked before he can be selected. He receives a personal course in this game, which is Shy Guy Bazaar, a track from the Mushroom Cup.
A gray version of him can be played using download play. However, you are unable to customize your vehicle.
Mario Kart 8/Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]
Shy Guy makes another appearance as a playable racer in Mario Kart 8, and he is unlocked by default. His signature kart is the Flame Rider. He receives another personal course, known as Shy Guy Falls, which is a track in the Flower Cup. He is one of the heavier lightweights along with Toad, Koopa Troopa, Lakitu, Toadette, Larry, Wendy, and Isabelle. Shy Guy has received 8 selectable color variants, which are unlocked when both DLC packs have been purchased.
In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Shy Guy hasn't been changed much, but his color variants are now pre-unlocked, and his stats have been altered, now sharing stats with Toad and Larry. Also, they replace the Mii Drivers in Wii Coconut Mall, a track from the Booster Course Pass. GBA Sunset Wilds also makes a return in the Booster Course Pass.
Mario Kart Tour[]
Shy Guy returns in Mario Kart Tour as a Normal driver. His Special Skill is the Double Bob-ombs. 3DS Shy Guy Bazaar and GBA Sunset Wilds return as retro tracks in this game. The color variants of Shy Guy have returned, where they are all Super instead of the classic red. Also, there is a gold edition of Shy Guy, known as Shy Guy (Gold), a Shy Guy in his Ninja outfit, and Blue and Yellow Exploring Shy Guys as drivers. They also appear as obstacles in the Ninja Hideaway course.
