The Standard LG (スタンダードLG Sutandādo LG) is Luigi's Standard Kart in Mario Kart DS.
Description[]
The Standard LG is green, matching Luigi's hat and shirt and making it one of two green Standard Karts in the game (the other is Yoshi Standard YS).
During gameplay, this kart is only available to Luigi, but if the player can complete all cups in Mirror Mode, any character can use this kart. The CPU-controlled Luigi also chooses the Standard LG to race in more frequently than his other karts, the Poltergust 4000 and Streamliner.
Statistics[]
The Standard LG has well-rounded stats and is above-average in all areas except for drift, making it a very solid choice for standard play. It boasts superior stats to the Standard MR in all areas except drift.
Similarly to the Poltergust 4000, it is able to snake effectively. However, it is seen less often as a standard kart alternative compared to the Standard YS, Standard DB, or Standard RB. The Poltergust is already an uncommon choice due to its status as an awkward mid-ground between the Egg 1 and ROB-BLS, and the decrease in Mini-Turbo length for LG matters quite a bit, as it begins to struggle with maintaining top speed unless the player snakes perfectly.
However, its unique blend of traits makes it the best choice on one course in top-level Time Trials: Desert Hills. The hill jump on that course requires the use of a Mushroom, and a standard kart is optimal for its access to two Mushrooms as well as better regular driving stats than the three-Mushroom karts, allowing for the largest possible timesave. The Standard RB is far too inconsistent to drive the full 3 laps at a world record pace, and the YS is too slow, making the LG the best choice for the current skill ceiling of the playerbase. It is, in fact, the only standard kart with a 3-lap world record (not counting nonPRB-specific records), even beating out the Poltergust, which currently has no such records.
Its speed is shared with Waluigi's Standard WL (both of which are the fastest standard karts within the mediumweight class), its weight is equivalent to all other standard karts (though when combined with Luigi's weight, it adds up to 64, which is equivalent to Mario's Standard MR when used with Mario, Donkey Kong's Wildlife when used with Donkey Kong, and Waluigi's Gold Mantis when used with Waluigi).
