The Super Horn, sometimes referred to as the Boom Box, is an item that debuts in Mario Kart 8 and appears in Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Kart Tour, and Mario Kart World. It can block incoming items and slow down nearby opponents by the use of sound waves. One notable feature is the ability to block Spiny Shells, which other items cannot do. There is a rare chance (<10%) that you will pull one in a high position, and you can only use it once.

Usage

The Super Horn can be used as an offensive or defensive item. When a player gets close to any amount of other players, the player can use the Super Horn to form a shockwave to flip the other racers in the area of effect, slowing them down and causing them to drop 3 coins. The Super Horn can also be used in Battle Mode to make opponents lose their coins in Coin Runners, balloons in Balloon Battle and the shine in Shine Thief.

For defense, the Super Horn can be infamously used to destroy the Spiny Shell, as well as other items like the Red Shell, Green Shell, Banana Peel, thrown Boomerangs and Bob-omb (this is highly unrecommended as it will explode on impact). It can also be used on certain track obstacles like the Piranha Plant around the side of the road on Royal Raceway or the cars on Toad's Turnpike, although they will just bounce over the Super Horn's shockwave impact as long as it is active.

In both Mario Kart 8 games, using the Super Horn by pressing the L or ZL buttons will consume the item immediately as it releases the shockwave, which can be used to "chain" items in item boxes.

The Super Horn also makes another appearance (being its latest) in Mario Kart Tour as a non-character exclusive item. There are gliders that will increase the player's chances of getting one, and can only be obtained in top spots, only appearing in lower positions due to the Lucky Seven item (it replaces the Star from the Lucky Seven from Mario Kart 7). The Super Horn also appears in side-challenges as an item to use to blast Goombas.  

Any one character who can receive three items on a track can get a Super Horn Frenzy, which can be used to create an ongoing blast to keep items and opponents away from the user. Super Horns will encircle the player's kart during the Frenzy, making the player invincible, and will disappear one after another as it ends. Players can earn a decent number of points in a race for destroying a Spiny Shell with a Super Horn compared to hitting multiple opponents or items at once with a single Super Horn. A Super Horn can also move a Blooper out of the player's way, also scoring them a decent number of points.  

It is unknown whether or not a player can receive two Super Horns at once in Mario Kart Tour, though three can be obtained to start a Frenzy.
