The Super Leaf is an item, based on the leaves from Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario 3D Land, and Super Mario 3D World that causes a tail to grow on the user's kart. It debuts in Mario Kart DS as the logo for the Leaf Cup and as an actual item in Mario Kart 7.

Using this item will cause the kart you are using to grow a tail on the back of the kart. Pressing a button will allow you to swing your tail, and can be used to break stuff. For example, you can break Green Shells, Red Shells, and Bananas. You can also break things that aren't items like barrels. Also, you can hit players next to you to make them spin out, and also collect coins. It disappears after 10 seconds, or when hit while not swinging the tail.

Mario Kart DS

The Super Leaf is slightly tilted, and there are two tears in the leaf. The leaf is dark brown.

Mario Kart Wii

The Super Leaf appears in Mario Kart Wii as the same way as Mario Kart DS with the differences being that the leaf is lighter and there is only one tear in the leaf.

Mario Kart 7

The Super Leaf has changed a lot. First of all, the leaf is now straight up. The leaf has now the same color as it was in Mario Kart DS, but there are some stripes on the leaf. And lastly, The leaf has eyes. Despite this, like its Mario Kart Wii look, it has one tear in the leaf.

Mario Kart 8/Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Absolutely nothing has been changed for the Super Leaf. The one and only change is that the leaf's stripes are lighter.

  • This item, along with the Bullet Bill and Golden Mushroom, shares the distinction of not immediately disappearing from the user's item icon box upon use; rather, it stays there until the item's effects wear off, which disallows the user to grab any other item while in play. This mechanic could be because the player uses the item button to swing the tail, which could cause problems if they were to get more items.
  • The Potted Piranha Plant is similar to this item, except the Potted Piranha Plant is automatic, similar to how the Thunder Cloud automatically activates once obtained in Mario Kart Wii.
