The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (commonly abbreviated to SNES) is a gaming console inspired by Nintendo. The only Mario Kart title released on it was Super Mario Kart. It is also called the Super Famicom and the Super NES. Unlike the later Nintendo consoles, this console can only allow for up to 2-player game play instead of 4-player game play. This console was discontinued internationally in 1999 and in Japan in 2003.

Super Mario Kart (1992)
- The SNES is the first console to have a Mario Kart game released on it.
- Because of limitations at the time, this game along with many SNES games had to use a enhanced graphics chip called Mode-7 that rotated 2-dimensional images on a 3-dimensional plane to give the illusion of 3D.
