Tokyo Blur is a track that debuted in Mario Kart Tour in the Tokyo Tour. It was the second city track added to the game, and it later got a second variant in the 2020 New Year's Tour, a third in the Summer Festival Tour, and a fourth in the Mario Tour.
A few years later, it would return in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as part of Wave 1 of the Booster Course Pass DLC, as the first track in the Lucky Cat Cup. As its name suggests, the racetrack is based off of the world's largest city: Tokyo, Japan (incidentally that country's capital).
Layout[]
Mario Kart Tour[]
Tokyo Blur 1[]
This Tokyo city based course starts out on a notable landmark, the Rainbow Bridge. After the start, racers take a right turn, down through Ginza, then making a left near the Wako store. Afterwards, racers then take a prolonged right turn, where you might catch the National Diet Building, and the Miraikan in sight. You then plunge into a tunnel, then later emerge out, where you might spot the Tokyo Skytree in the distance. You then take a few turns before heading back onto the Rainbow Bridge.
Reverse, Trick, and Reverse-trick Variants[]
While the reverse and trick variants have not many changes (aside that the reverse variant goes through the layout in the opposite direction and the trick variant is strewn with ramps for Jump Boosts), bats and the dinosaur from Mario Kart: Double Dash!!'s Dino Dino Jungle appears in the reverse-trick variant as an obstacle near the end with two of the latter appearing in the background.
Tokyo Blur 2[]
It starts out just the same as before, although now once you head down to the Wako Store, you take a right instead of a left. You head down a path where two Thwomps are present that act as minor obstacles. The player is then diverted onto a path that takes you under the Sensō-ji. You then wrap around back to the path after the tunnel from Tokyo Blur 1, then subsequently onto the Rainbow Bridge.
Reverse, Trick, and Reverse-trick Variants[]
The reverse variant is not much different from the original version, aside from going backward. The trick variant removes the Thwomps, putting in ramps throughout the course. The reverse-trick variant places one Thwomp next to the other and adds a Glide Panel near the end.
Tokyo Blur 3[]
It starts out just like Tokyo Blur 2, although now instead of being diverted onto a path under the Sensō-ji, you keep going straight, continuing onto the Shuto Expressway. Another set of two Thwomps are present just after the turn following the entrance into the highway. You then take a slight left turn onto a massive roundabout. Thereafter that, you take a right onto a glide ramp that takes you to the end of the lap.
Reverse, trick, and Reverse-trick Variants[]
The reverse variant replaces the Thwomps with Pipes and oil puddles. The trick variant removes the glide ramp and the Thwomps. In the reverse-trick variant, bigger Thwomps have been added in certain spots and a second glide ramp appears at the exit of the Shuto Expressway.
Tokyo Blur 4[]
Tokyo Blur 4 is an interesting combination of the other three variants, and has a single lap. It starts like Tokyo Blur 1, though once out of the tunnel, you are diverted onto the path where Tokyo Blur 2's path connects with the other, making you drive a portion of Tokyo Blur 2 in reverse. Once you drive under the Sensō-ji, a Section Gate appears, making the start of the so-called second "lap." Afterwards you are diverted onto Tokyo Blur 3's path, although the Thwomps there have been moved to just before the start/finish line with oil slicks in their former place and the first turn on the Shuto Expressway is divided. The race comes to a close afterwards.
Reverse, Trick, and Reverse-trick Variants[]
The reverse and reverse-trick variants remove the oil slicks and put the Thwomps back in their Tokyo Blur 3 position (ironic, considering Tokyo Blur 3's reverse variant has oil puddles in the Thwomps' place), and the Shuto Expressway is no longer divided (except at the toll gate). The trick variant removes the glide ramp and the Thwomps are gone as well. In the reverse-trick variant, the starting line is elevated and two more Thwomps appear at the straightaway with the Wako store nearby.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]
This course returns as part of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass as the first track in the Lucky Cat Cup. This rendition takes the layouts of Tokyo Blur 1, 2 and 3, where they are combined into one. Each variant takes place on one lap, with Tokyo Blur 1 taking place on the first lap, Tokyo Blur 2 on the second, and Tokyo Blur 3 on the third. Tokyo Blur 4 was excluded most likely due to it being a unique combination of the other variants, with no new sections. No major gameplay changes were made besides the integrated variants, only lighting and texture upgrades.

Shortcuts[]
- You can cut off part of the wide right turn toward the tunnel on Tokyo Blur 1 if you have a mushroom (Only Possible in Mario Kart Tour).
- A ramp is present just before the entrance onto the Rainbow Bridge on Tokyo Blur 1 and 2, use a mushroom to cut a small part of the turn off. In the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe version, this shortcut is possible to take without a mushroom on 200cc.

Trivia![]
- Previous Mario games have featured the city of Tokyo, including:
- NES Open Tournament Golf (1991)
- Mario is Missing! (1992)
- This and New York Minute are the only city tracks from Mario Kart Tour to have 4 variants.
- Tokyo Blur's formula would later be repeated for New York Minute, London Loop, Amsterdam Drift, and Vancouver Velocity, with the current lap matching the variant's number.
- As with New York Minute, all three variants are driven normally.
- London Loop's third variant is driven in reverse.
- Amsterdam Drift 2 and the western portion of Amsterdam Drift 3 are driven in reverse.
- Vancouver Velocity 2 is driven in reverse.
- Los Angeles Laps counts in a release date technicality, but not really in a numbering technicality due to 3 and 2 bearing the wrong numbers.
- As with New York Minute, all three variants are driven normally.
