Gameplay[]
Grand Prix[]
In Grand Prix, you compete with 15 CPUs racing through any of the 8 cups there are in the game. The Engine Classes are 50cc, 100cc, 150cc, Mirrorred (150cc), 200cc, and Mirrored (200cc).
When you first play, you can only choose either 50cc or 100cc and when you complete those Engine Classes, the next is unlocked. The high the number of the Engine Class is, the faster you drive playing it. When the Engine Class is mirrored, it swaps the direction from the right side of the course to the left, and vice versa. The more you progress, the harder it gets. The CPUs get smarter and faster the more you progress through the engine classes. The first time you try a new Engine Class, you can only play the Mushroom Cup or the Shell Cup. If you are able to complete the Mushroom Cup, you are able to proceed to the Flower Cup. If you are able to complete the Shell Cup, you are able to proceed to the Banana Cup. etc.
| Engine Classes | |
|---|---|
| Class | Unlocking Criteria |
| 50cc | Unlocked at start. |
| 100cc | |
| 150cc | By completing at least half of the cups in both 50cc and 100cc. |
| Mirrorred (150cc) | By completing all of the cups in 150cc. |
| 200cc | By completing all of the cups in 100cc and 150cc. |
| Mirrorred (200cc) | By completing all of the cups in Mirrored (150cc) and 200cc. |

| How To Achieve | Do the absolute worst you can. Hit a lot of walls, get hit by a lot of items, staying in lower places for a long period of time, just everything. | This is for when you don't do the worst, but still bad. You hit many walls, get hit by a lot of items, and other imperfections. This is not as bad as the F ranking. | This is not the worst but not good either. This is when you get hit a decent amount of times or go off-road for a long time. | This is the ranking for good. You didn't hit to many walls, you didn't get hit by to many obstacles, and was able to maintain a good placement. | This is the ranking for doing great! You did not do much wrong. Sadly, it is not as good as a Star Rank. | This is the ranking for excellent! You did a lot to get this ranking! Hit very few walls, very few items, most likely didn't even fall off the map once! | The second best ranking of them all! You did almost perfect! | THE BEST!!! You did absolutely perfect! |
| Minimum Points To Get Ranking | 0 Points | 10 Points | 30 Points | 58 Points | 75 Points | 92 Points | 97 Points | 100 Points |
This is shown at the Award Ceremony at the end of a cup. The Award Ceremony takes place at Luigi Circuit. If you get in 6th place or less, you are shown disappointed looking at the podium from the side. If you get 4th or 5th place, you are shown celebrating beside the podium and 2nd and 3rd place. If you are in 3rd, 2nd, or 1st place, you are shown celebrating on the podium.
VS Race[]
In VS Races, you can customize your race by changing the items that you can get, the engine class, and more. VS Mode is very similar to Grand Prix, it's just that it is not as competetive. For the engine classes, you can select 50cc, 100cc, 150cc, 200cc, or Mirrored. When you choose Mirrored, you can chose which speed to set it to (50cc, 100cc, 150cc, or 200cc.).
Time Trial[]
In Time Trials, you race through the track alone or with a ghost trying to get to complete 3 laps the fastest you can. You can choose four modes, Triple Mushroom (150cc), Triple Mushroom (200cc), Golden Mushroom (150cc), or Golden Mushroom (200cc). You are given Triple Mushrooms as an item if you choose a Triple Mushroom game-mode. This is the same with the Golden Mushroom. Expert Staff Ghosts return in Mario Kart: Super Sport but you unlock them when your Time Trial has a lower time than the Normal Staff Ghosts Time Trial.
Battle Mode[]
Battle Mode in Mario Kart: Super Sport has 5 retro types and 1 new type. This includes Balloon Battle, Shine Thief, Bob-omb Blast, Coin Runners, and Renegade Roundup. The new type is called Colour Wars, similar to Splatoon and Tile Wars. This is a Battle Mode Type where your team has to colour the most space on a battle map. You get a cannon on the back of your vehicle and by pressing A, you can shoot out a paint-ball which explodes paint everywhere when hitting a wall, floor, or ceiling. You get a 2 and a half minute timer to paint the most you can.
Online Mode[]
In Online Mode, you play online... You can choose to play 50cc, 100cc, 150cc, 200cc, or Mirrored, which when you play Mirrored, it just randomizes the speed. Unlike Mario Kart Wii, you gain VR/BR depending on your placement, not how much your VR/BR amount is. If your team lost in Battle Mode, your points gained for your BR would go down by 50, this is the same for winning but it would go up by 50. If you reach less than 1 VR/BR, you will be suspended from playing online for 1 day. After that 1 day, you will be reset to 250 VR/BR. You start at 5000 VR/BR. If we find that you are trolling and getting low places intentionally to sabotage other players, you will be suspended for 2 days. If you do this continuously, the punishment will become larger and larger. If you are found hacking/cheating/exploiting, you will be suspended for 7 days. If you continue hacking/cheating/exploiting, you will be permanantly banned from Mario Kart: Super Sport Online.
