Vancouver Velocity is a Track from Mario Kart Tour that was the premiere track for the Vancouver Tour. It's a direct portrayal of Vancouver, a city in Canada. It eventually received a second variant in the Penguin Tour, and a third in the 2022 Autumn Tour.

Vancouver Velocity makes a retro appearance in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as part of Wave 5 of the Booster Course Pass DLC, as the fourth and last course of the Cherry Cup.

Layout[]

Mario Kart Tour[]

Vancouver Velocity 1[]

The racers start next to the Vancouver Convention centre. Two slight rights will direct them under the Vancouver Olympics Cauldron, which is followed by the Capilano Suspension bridge Park. They must then make a sharp right turn, leading to an S-bend on the bridge itself. The bridge ends in a Glider Ramp, which racers must use to make their way back to the mainland. A right turn lies up ahead, leading them back to the Finish Line.

Reverse, Trick, and Reverse-trick Variants[]

The reverse variant adds snowmen to the sides of the track between the suspension bridge and the Olympics cauldron, while the racers use fans to gain height in the gliding section. The trick variant moves the gliding section to the start of the suspension bridge. In the reverse-trick variant, the gliding section is moved to the park exit. In the latter two instances, the gliding section's former location has been filled in with a chain-link bridge.

Vancouver Velocity 2[]

This route has the racers start facing the opposite direction to Vancouver Velocity 1. After a right reverse curve followed by a right turn, Rogers Arena lies ahead with a cannon that shoots racers towards the Lost Lagoon. The racers then drive along the Lost Lagoon, using the beach as a road. This leads them onto a pedestrian bridge that curves towards the right. Afterwards, the racers must make their way back to the city, with a pair of consecutive drops in their way. Afterwards, they go through a right turn and then a left to get back to the start/finish line.

Reverse, Trick, and Reverse-trick Variants[]

The reverse variant adds Shy Guys who skate to the Rogers Arena, with the cannon being moved to Stanley Park. In the trick version, the cannon has been replaced with the aforementioned skating Shy Guys (which are stationary aside from twirling), and the east exit is open, leading to a regular glide ramp. The reverse-trick version adds a big Piranha Plant to the Rogers Arena's rink.

Vancouver Velocity 3[]

This route is significantly shorter than the first two. The racers face the same direction that they did during the first route, even starting in the same location. However, they go straight rather than following the first route. Then, they enter a tunnel which leads them down a wide left turn. There is a ramp in the tunnel, so Tricks can be performed here. The Vancouver Public Library looms ahead, which the racers go through on their way to Rogers Arena, which has skating Shy Guys. They follow Vancouver Velocity 2 in reverse for the rest of the route from there.

Reverse, Trick, and Reverse-trick Variants[]

The reverse variant replaces the figure-skating Shy Guys with snow blocks, which are taken from Super Mario Kart's Vanilla Lake tracks. In the trick variant, the main entrance is blocked, but the racers enter the arena from above via a Chain-link Path. In the trick and reverse-trick variants, the racers go straight through the rink.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]

Vancouver Velocity returns as part of Wave 5 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass as the last course of the Cherry Cup. The course received many significant visual upgrades. As usual, the course is now an updated version of the three routes combined. Also, the Capilano Suspension Bridge is now in anti-gravity with bumpers added to it.

The first lap is based off Vancouver Velocity 1. An arrow field immediately directs racers to turn right, passing under the 2010 Winter Olympics Cauldron. A jump board appears as racers continue into the forest, onto the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Then the racers take a glider ramp back to Vancouver.

The second lap is based off Vancouver Velocity 2, but in reverse. Racers turn right again, but have to slight left taking them onto a dock. A ramp has been added so that they can reach Stanley Park. Instead of a cannon to lead racers to Rogers Arena, there is now a regular glider ramp, and the area before the arena is no longer an out-of-bounds area. There are Skating Shy Guys in the arena, where an unused path from VV2 is used to exit the Arena.

The final lap follows VV3. Racers drive through the tunnel (with the ramp removed), leading them to Vancouver Public Library, and through Rogers Arena again toward the Finish Line!

Trivia![]

  • This course was originally supposed to come in Wave 6 of the Booster Course Pass as the first course of the Acorn Cup (as evidenced by it being labeled in the files as "Cnsw_61"), but it got pushed up to Wave 5 for as of yet unknown reasons.
  • This is the third course in the Booster Course Pass that adheres to a certain route for each lap. Los Angeles Laps does not count due to it being a single lap.
  • The formula is similar to Tokyo Blur, New York Minute, and Amsterdam Drift. Like them, it starts with the first route, then does the second route, then finishes with the third route.
  • However, just like Amsterdam Drift, the 2nd lap uses the reverse variant's route instead of the normal one.
  • Vancouver Velocity is the fourth city course of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass to have multiple paths, roads or exits that haven't been used in Mario Kart Tour.
